Father Julien Vaudrin

Julien is a high-ranking priest of the Ishgardian Orthodox Church, a man of commanding presence and hunger for control. He is a shepherd to the people, wielding his influence with calculated intent. Respected and feared in equal measure, Julien has shaped himself into the perfect embodiment of faith and discipline, though few would dare to question where true devotion ends and his personal ambitions begin.Highborn, Julien's path was once set towards Knighthood. As a skilled swordsman and tactician, he served as an instructor within the Temple Knights, training the next generation of Ishgard's defenders. His life, however, was irrevocably altered following the loss of his family, an event that severed his ties to the battlefield and led him towards the cloth. In the Church, he found a new purpose: not in wielding steel, but in wielding faith - a far sharper and persuasive weapon. His discipline, once used to forge warriors, was now turned towards shaping minds, instilling devotion as unwavering as the shields he once trained men to bear.A man of sharp intellect and effortless charisma, Julien possesses a voice that weaves faith into certainty and bends even the strongest wills. He does not manipulate through deception. He simply speaks in truths so carefully crafted that resistance becomes unthinkable.Despite his rigid devotion to the Church, Julien does not simply follow doctrine - he is a master of it, a sculptor shaping faith as he sees fit. He understands that power lies not in brute strength, but in the slow, careful erosion of doubt. He does not force control upon others; he makes them offer it willingly until they cannot remember a time before they belonged to him.To many, he is a pillar of righteousness as well as a man of unshakeable faith. To those who know him more intimately, he is something far greater - a force of silent dominance. A man who does not ask for devotion but takes it, refines it, and ensures that once someone has given themselves to him, they will never desire anything else.

Appearance

Julien is the very picture of composure as well as refinement. Tall and commanding, his presence alone is enough to demand attention. Even in stillness he carries an aura of quiet dominance. His features are sharp and striking, sculpted with a noble air that betrays his Highborn lineage. His silver-blue eyes are the kind that seem to pierce through any falsehood, stripping a person down to their very soul. However, only one of those eyes truly sees. A jagged scar runs over his right eye, a relic of a past battle, leaving him blind on that side. He conceals it beneath a golden mask, crafted from burnished gold, covering solely the right side of his face. The socket for the eye has a leather insert, dyed deep black upon which the symbol of the Fury is emblazoned in golden thread - a mark of his unshaken devotion to Ishgard’s goddess of war.Julien upholds an immaculate appearance, always pristine in how he presents himself. However, unlike the rigid discipline he applies to all else, he has allowed his hair to grow unchecked, cascading past his shoulders in ashen-blond waves. Once meticulously kept, it now bears a certain effortless refinement. Despite his shift from sword to scripture, his body has not forgotten its past. Beneath the flowing garments of his station, he is still a man of strength, his form honed by years of training as a Knight. For all his outward control, Julien is not immune to suffering - he embraces it. In secrecy, he practises self-flagellation. The lash of a whip, the bite of leather against flesh - not as punishment, but as purification. A testament of faith, a devotion so absolute that he would carve his reverence into his very skin. His back bears the scars of this ritual, a tapestry of pain and worship intertwined. To those who look upon him, Julien is pristine, a man above worldly weakness. But beneath the surface, beneath the carefully pressed fabric, he carries the weight of his own sins.

Profession

As a High Priest of Halone, Father Julien Vaudrin stands as one of the most revered and influential figures within the Ishgardian Orthodox Church. A shepherd to his flock and a master of doctrine, he ensures that the teachings of the Fury are upheld with devotion. To defy him is to defy Halone Herself. Julien's role extends far beyond leading prayer and tending to the faithful. He does not simply preach the Fury’s will - he ensures it is obeyed. With a mind as sharp as any blade and a voice as commanding as any general’s, he serves as both a spiritual guide and enforcer of the Church’s authority.Despite his unshaken piety, Julien is no stranger to worldly battles. Before donning the cloth, he served as an instructor within the Temple Knights where he trained many squires in the art of combat. A man who once wielded a sword to defend Ishgard, he now wields faith with even greater devotion. Though he has long since set aside his blade, the discipline of a Knight still lingers.Yet, for all his outward serenity, Julien is not without his own trials of faith. Unlike many of his brethren, he does not blindly follow doctrine. He understands that faith, like a blade, must be tempered and refined. A leader does not simply recite the laws of the gods; he ensures that they are followed and that they are embedded into the very soul of those who serve. Among his fellow clergy, Julien is both revered and feared. Some see him as the perfect disciple, others, however, whisper of the way he bends faith into something that serves his own vision. But Julien does not fear whispers. He does not answer to doubt for he is the will of the Fury made flesh and those who stand in his way will either kneel or be cast aside.

OOC

  • ㅤCharacter InspirationsㅤClaude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), Father & King Bradley (Fullmetal Alchemist), Artorius Collbrande (Tales of Berseria), Lezard Valeth (Valkyrie Profile), Clow Reed (Cardcaptor Sakura), Camerlengo (Angels & Demons), Kirei Kotomine (Fate Series)

  • The Crystal RuleㅤA lof of what is below can be easily summarised in The Crystal Rule which summarises my preferences in RP perfectly

  • Solution 9ㅤDue to the nature and background of this character, those who RP heavily about S9, originate from it, or are extremely into modern worlds and concepts - will not mesh well at all. And I will, unfortunately, avoid interactions. It is nothing against the player or character, but merely me seeking to remain firmly rooted in a world which is more fantasy / medieval based

  • ㅤLore BendingㅤㅤWhile I accept some lore bending within reason, breaking is an instant no. None of you are Ascians, the WoL, some child born of Bahamut, walking Voidsent horrors, closely related to crucial story NPCs, super young and yet somehow a Jack of all trades, etc...

  • ㅤRP StyleㅤㅤPreference for paragraph-style RP with depth and emotion, but I’m flexible so long as effort is there. Short replies with no substance will lose my interest immediately. I value immersive writing, thoughtful actions, and mutual engagement

  • ㅤThemesㅤㅤI adore realism in RP and that means that I shall indulge in every aspect when it comes to themes or settings, whilst also loving grounded RP. I certainly prefer long-term connections with more depth and flavour

  • ㅤImmersionㅤㅤI fully embrace the logic that IC actions have IC consequences, as it is the best way for true character growth

  • ㅤNo SpoilersㅤㅤSpoilers won't ever be given so if you want to get to know the character, RP it out

  • Important ERP NoteㅤㅤI do not condemn ERP, since we all do it in varying degrees, but if you have an F-List and it is your primary type of RP and what you hunt for - keep walking. I am not interested in characters which are tossed my way just to satisfy some sick erotic fantasy

  • ㅤRP TagㅤㅤIf you do not have the RP tag on, I do not consider you as IC and thus won't approach you to RP. This rule works both ways

  • ㅤCharacter InjuryㅤㅤOpen to character injury, potentially even death, but I kindly ask for such to be discussed OOC beforehand

  • ㅤIC ≠ OOCㅤㅤMy character is not me, and I am not him; please do not mix the two

  • Important DisclaimerJulien is an antagonist. He is not a good person and he touches on very sore topics surrounding abuse, depression, exploitation as well as manipulation - these will only be touched upon with people who are comfortable with them. And no, redeeming him is not possible - he cannot be fixed. If you seek a villain for your storylines, confrontational RP, or got any other ideas that you'd wish to discuss, Julien is the man for you, so don't hesitate to reach out to me

RP Hooks

Common

  • ㅤSeeking GuidanceㅤㅤAs a High Priest of Halone, Julien is an authoritative figure in matters of faith and morality. Perhaps you seek his wisdom - whether in earnest devotion, out of obligation, or due to personal doubts you dare not voice elsewhere

  • ㅤAssistance to the ChurchㅤㅤThe Cathedral and its clergy are constantly in need of resources. Whether it be traders providing goods, scribes documenting holy texts, scholars seeking knowledge, or Knights ensuring the Church’s protection, there is always a place for those willing to serve

  • ㅤConfession & RedemptionㅤㅤThe Church is a place of cleansing sins, and Julien is its enforcer. Perhaps you carry a burden, or you simply wish to test his reaction to a less-than-pious past. Does he absolve you, or does he see through the veil of your remorse?

  • ㅤMentor to the FaithfulㅤㅤFather Julien is known for his keen eye for potential, often taking promising Scholasticate students or people under his wing, such as Cyrille Nillefront, Renard Grimmenier and Angelique Donnadieu. Many see it as a great honour to be guided by him, his teachings shaping not just faith, but discipline and purpose. Do you seek his wisdom or wonder what it truly means to be under his tutelage?

  • ㅤRecognising His Past as a KnightㅤㅤJulien once trained squires as an instructor within the Temple Knights before taking his vows. Amongst them, his squire Knight-Captain Dauvaunt Courcelle. Perhaps some remember him from those days or served under him?

  • ㅤHis Eyepatch & ScarㅤㅤThe jagged scar over his right eye, hidden beneath an eyepatch embroidered with the Fury’s sigil, is difficult to ignore. Do you ask about it? Speculate whether it was a battle wound or something far worse?

  • ㅤHands Forever CoveredㅤㅤHe's never seen without gloves. Whether presiding over a sermon or offering a blessing, his hands remain hidden beneath fine leather, never exposed to the elements nor the touch of another

Uncommon

  • ㅤHouse VaudrinㅤㅤA House of unwavering faith, and a legacy of formidable Knights. House Vaudrin has long stood as a bastion of Ishgardian devotion, producing some of the most devout clergy and skilled warriors to serve. Yet Julien, its sole heir, has chosen the cloth over the blade

  • ㅤScholar in the Shadowsㅤㅤ He is often seen poring over ancient texts, or reading far beyond what most priests concern themselves with. While much of his study is expected, his interest in the arcane is less so. He asks too many questions and lingers too long over tomes that speak of things beyond holy scripture

  • ㅤChosen Onesㅤㅤ Whispers tell of a priest whose gaze sees more than most. Not bound to Ishgard alone, Father Vaudrin travels and watches - seeking those with promise or potential yet unrealized. Why he seeks such individuals remains untold, but one thing is certain: if he notices you - you are no longer ordinary

Rare

  • ㅤQuiet SufferingㅤㅤFather Julien is always composed, and always in control. Yet, on rare occasions, something seems amiss. A slight stiffness in his posture, the way he adjusts his robes and the faintest tension in his shoulders

  • ㅤA Widow’s SilenceㅤㅤIt is known that the priest once had a wife, lost during the war. The official tale speaks of an accident, yet whispers persist. Was it truly misfortune, or something else? He rarely speaks of her, and when he does, his words are careful

  • ㅤSins of the FleshㅤㅤIn the quiet corners of Ishgard, there are whispers that the High Priest is not as untouched by sin as he appears. Some claim he seeks solace in the arms of others, drowning his grief in fleeting pleasures. Do you dismiss such talk, or wonder just how far the High Priest’s control truly extends?
